 Peace 3

As part of the Peace 3 Programme 40 pupils from Coleraine College worked with 40 pupils from St Josephs College. Pupils’ have all had great fun throughout the project and enjoyed meeting new people and developing friendships.

The programme began with pupils’ meeting at Coleraine College and participating in a series of workshops to develop their leadership skills.

Following this pupils’ had a day trip to the Maiden City. Through a guided tour they explored the City and learned about its diverse culture and history. They then had workshops in the Tower Museum focusing on Community Relations, Peace and Reconciliation and local politics. At Brunswick Superbowl pupils’ developed their teamwork skills as they danced their way through a friendly game of bowls.

Next they visited Corrymeela in Ballycastle for workshops to explore the characteristics of good leaders. Pupils’ worked together to produce a series of posters and had the opportunity to think about leaders that they admire. This ranged from some of their teachers to people in the public eye.

Their final experience together was in Woodhall, Kilrea where pupils got opportunities to display their leadership skills. Pupils’ took part in a series of outdoor activities that had them relying on each other’s leadership capacities and having to put trust in their abilities.

A further part of  the  Peace 3 project lead to the creation of a joint dance group. 12 pupils, 6 from St Joseph’s College and 6 from Coleraine College, were selected to participate in a series of dance workshops. The girls worked with Karen Graham to choreograph a dance which reflects our shared heritage.
