The Physical Education Programme aims to contribute to the physical, mental and social education of the pupils through the provision of a structured programme which follows the N.I Curriculum and reflects the aims of the College.PE provides the ideal environment to develop thinking skills and personal capabilities whether working with others, setting targets, organising and managing tasks or respecting views and opinions of others.
At both Key Stage 3 and 4, pupils develop a variety of skills and competence in a broad range of physical activities. In years 8-10(KS3) pupils are introduced to the following sports, Games, Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Trampolining, Health Related Fitness,Rounders,Tennis and Swimming(year 8 only).In Key Stage 4 the emphasis changes more towards recreational activities and promoting purposeful use of leisure time. Pupils take part in Archery, Badminton, Indoor Football, Volleyball, Aerobics, Trampolining, Health Related PE, Orienteering and Golf. Students get the opportunity to use local leisure facilities such as Coleraine Leisure Centre, Fitness First, Jet Centre, and local forests. In year11 we offer pupils the opportunity to attain a Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. We offer GCSE PE to pupils in Key Stage 4 and OCR level 3 in Sport at Sixth form. We aim to make pupils aware of the opportunities to join clubs and leisure centres in the area and encourage them to continue activities in adult life.

The time allocated in the curriculum is 3 hours per week at Key Stage 3 and 1 hour and 30 minutes at Key Stage 4.Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, dance, cheerleading and athletics. Pupils take part in inter-house school competitions such as the swimming gala, cross country, sports day and netball, football and short tennis events, as well as entering local leagues, area leagues and N.Ireland competitions in a wide variety of activities including football, netball, archery, ten pin bowling, cheerleading and athletics.
School facilities include an assembly hall, gymnasium, two all weather pitches, two tennis courts and two soccer pitches. |
