At Coleraine College we encourage pupils to think for themselves, to appreciate the difficulties of building a picture of the past using incomplete or biased evidence and to understand that interpretations of past events and people may differ. Pupils are given opportunities to develop their ability to think critically and are encouraged to transfer these skills to other areas of study and to the contemporary world. We believe the study of History should be accessible to all pupils, interesting, relevant and enjoyable!
Key Stage 3
At KS3 pupils are taught how to pose and answer key questions about events, developments and people.
Ø Year 8
Pupils investigate the nature of historical study, their own life history, the range of evidence available about the past and begin to appreciate how historians use chronology to order and label events and people. Pupils are encouraged to focus on the marketable skills and knowledge acquired through the study of History.

Ø Year 9
In Year 9 pupils are introduced to important historical developments and personalities that have helped shape contemporary society. Pupils investigate evidence and controversies surrounding

- Reformation
- Exploration and Colonisation
- Plantation of Ulster
- Revolution
Ø Year 10
Pupils focus on recent events in Ireland and the wider world.
Key Stage 4
Student study CEA GCSE with a focus on

- Changing Relationships: Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland c1965-1985
